Photos from National Underwear Day
National Underwear Day
You probably had to work yesterday and therefore the passing of the sixth annual “National Underwear Day” would have gone unnoticed. Not so for the fashion industry, where everyone came out to Espace to celebrate underwear, gorgeous models and my personal favorite of the night: prosciutto wrapped asparagus.
Upon entering, I couldn’t help but blush and feel like an ugly gorgon at the sight of four well-muscled men in nothing but tight fitting underwear and football shoulder pads. I knew I would need a few drinks so I made my way to one of the several open bars to begin the champagne binge.
Lining the runway were men in their skivvies standing like living statues of Michelangelo’s David. I made my way over to the VIP area where I first noticed Real Housewife of New York Alex McCord and her closeted gay husband who was wearing red Just Cavalli pants with a light blue sweater and matching suede loafers.
Fashion party staple Rosemary Ponzo, dressed in a blue sequined dress and giant black hat, was sitting close by on the couch. As we waited for the actual runway show to start, celebrities continued to usher in through the press line. There was still no sign of Lydia Hearst, the evening’s host, from where we were but I was to later find out that she had been mingling by the entrance and press carpet.
When the runway show finally started, nearly-naked men and women made the rounds on the square shaped catwalk for at least thirty minutes, which started to feel redundant towards the end…oh who am I kidding, I could have watched models in underwear all night.
During some sort of intercession, where there was ample time to check out who else had arrived, we spotted Richie Rich in green nail polish with Baby Chic across the runway. Not far from him was celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch wearing a white pants and a wife beater. Lydia Hearst finally took stage, looking rail thin and tiny in a shiny silver mini dress and told the crowd to “Semper ubi sub ubi.”
After a few more presentations of collections from Sean Jean, Le Mystère and others, Tyson Beckford came out onto the runway with freshpair.com president Michael Kleinmann to close the show.
At this point, the real fun started. After saying hello to some more people and catching up with Robert Verdi, I took a cab for the after party being held at Bungalow 8. Present were a few models from the show as well as Suede from the current season of Project Runway. Patrick McMullan, who was at the runway show, also showed up and continued to do what he does best.
The celebration isn’t over yet as freshpair and /baskit/ host yet another party at HK Lounge tomorrow night.

I don’t too often receive pitches for my blog, SavoirVivre New York, but the majority of the time that I do get them, they are either uninteresting or generic and I end up deleting them. Being that ‘new media’ outreach is something entirely recent, there really aren’t any guides on how to successfully pitch a blogger.
Speaking both as a blogger as well as someone who does blogger outreach for marketing campaigns, I feel like I am qualified to say what works and what doesn’t. Below are some key points to making your blogger pitch effective and that you get the best result and coverage for your product or client.
That said, some of the best pitches I have received are from Feed Company, the people behind the YouTube viral-marketing. While their content is only tangentially related to the subjects about which I write, I always appreciate their personalized pitches and would definitely post their content if I found it relevant to my readers. Below is a recent pitch.
“Hi SavoirVivreNY,
Check out the follow-up to YouTube video
sensation “Guys backflip into jeans” which shows Rocky the orangutan as he
chills in the streets of Hollywood sporting classic denim.
With a laid-back tone and catchy beat, “Super chill monkey does Hollywood”
follows Rocky as he rides the bus, goes to an audition, and chows down at his
favorite taco stand. Damn it feels good to be a primate.

Well would you look at that, I posted their link after all!
